What are the benefits of massage and bodywork? Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage and bodywork are also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety, and create an overall sense of well-being. How will I feel after the massage? Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity, which can last for days. Since toxins are released from soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water afterward. Are there any medical conditions that would make massage inadvisable? Yes. That’s why it is imperative that before you begin your session, the practitioner ask general health questions. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medication you are taking. If you are under a doctor’s care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage prior to any session. Many practitioners may require a recommendation or approval from your doctor. What can I expect from a session? As in any massage session, I respect the privacy and confidentiality of my client. My “healing space” is designed for maximum privacy. Draping is specific to expose only the body part being worked and then re-covered before exposing another body part. Information shared is confidential between you and me. A record is kept (in a locked cabinet) so that I can discuss progress with you before and after each session. The massage session is generally 1 ˝ hours due to the extra time in working with stones and combining massage with the energy work. The hot stones are kept in water in an electric roaster. You will hear the clinking of the stones as they are handled and during the session. Most recipients describe this as a pleasant and relaxing sound...an added benefit to the actual massage. You will have small stones placed between your toes and in the palms of your hands. You will lay on stones but, again, most recipients consider this an added benefit as the penetrating heat of the stones begins to melt away the tension. |
